Bedding Shop and Gardening

What's going on...Well currently I am waiting for my new bed to arrive for photographing the linens and such....there has been a bit of a delay in delivery. Once it arrives all will begin with photographs then uploading to the online shop.

In the meantime, I have prepared the garden for all the veggies to be planted this weekend.  Its smaller this year as you can see in the back. I am fencing in the area this year to keep rabbits and deer out, with my neighbor not planting in the last few years, my garden gets a lot of wild life attention not wanted. So far its just been preparing the area for the outdoor furniture and things. It is however, so very nice to see all things spring blooming.

With the cold weather the Lavender really took a beating this past winter. Oh how sad, I was to see all but two survive. Although the lavender plants are clearly not deceased there was a ton of pruning back the dead areas. Last spring I only had to prune one as far back as the one in the photograph which turned out fine, it came back as the season progressed. I am hoping the same. I did have a couple lavender plants damaged from rabbits nesting. Bless their hearts I had to take them out, no babies yet, however I did have to remove the nest to cut back the damage. I've had my lavender nearly 4 years, and oh, how beautiful they have been, until this year. There are new shoots appearing so I hope all turns out well for the plants. I darn not say I may not get much as far as blooming this season. On the good side my new lavender plants arrived today, so, they will be planted in a couple days.

Before I close this post I do have a question and would appreciate your input. Currently I have the online shop set as Nesting in Love...I am also considering Naturally Nesting. Any input would be nice.

Summer is Beautiful

I try not to think about the days rolling by as we approach the school season and I get closer to another birthday number. It's really not the number that bothers me as I still feel like a young girl inside,but, the fact remains as the numbers climb life itself gets shorter. Like the days of summer, the sun is setting earlier and earlier,  yet still, it makes me smile. I delight in the sky, although I do love a clear blue sky with a huge ball of sun, I love the clouds. They offer detail like a brush to a plain canvas they make the sky so interesting, especially when photographing. Wow, I just paused to go outside and set my Home Grown Veggie sign back up. The wind is blowing and feels absolutely wonderful as the sky is blue with a few puffs of white clouds, and the sun is shinning, it's amazing,  with the exception of the fact this girl was wearing one pair of sunglasses with another on her shirt. I can't tell you how many pairs I've lost wearing them that way. Thank goodness I am practical and simple in living, loosing cheap sunglasses doesn't feel so bad. Somehow though more seems to find there way back in the house. Mostly due to leaving them in the garden, and that's where I usually am this time of year. It's been a pretty good growing season, I have planted the fall crops which are growing. The tomatoes did okay, not has good as they have done in the past seasons, then nearly everyone is having the same problem, especially organic growers. Zucchini has been in abundance, as were cucumbers, beans, and peppers. Brussel sprouts are still growing beautifully and my lavender is just amazing, in fact, it's my favorite, although I did loose two new ones this year, which is rare. Have yet to figure that one out. But the others are doing beautifully, oh how I love growing and processing lavender, and the dahlia's are just gorgeous among other flowers I am finding randomly. 

Redecorating Inside and Out

 

 

Lately I have been doing a lot of decorating inside and out with out any thought just going with the flow of my mind. Being multi talented and able to do so many things myself. I am finding things around me are just evolving on there own oddly in the last couple years.

 

 

I had no plans whatsoever to build a fire pit until out of no where last week, I removed my raised veggie beds (as you can see by the border) let the weeds grow dug a 2 ft hole and made a fire pit. The brick are sealed inside with a mud mixture the way they did many decades ago. I have not used it yet,  I plan on adding a small wire trap over the top to keep the fire contained and from releasing burning pieces into the air. It measures 4' by 4' just the perfect size for me. I love sitting outside and especially in the fall while a fire is burning.

 

 

It's hard to believe just a couple years ago this whole area including the high weeds in the background which stretch out quite a ways, use to be all planting field. I've lived in my apartment 7 years now when I first started gardening the second year this was all dirt. Now it's more landscaping and evolving into something new. If you take a real close look you will see all my lavender plants behind the fire pit. They've been cut way back for the winter to come. The white cloth is where I plant my varieties of lettuce now, the cloth keeps the rabbits and bugs out, let's in the sun and rain. I am done with decorating this area just haven't photographed it yet. I will do that to show how nice it turn out with seating and such...

 

 

I've also been doing some more inside decorating or tearing apart I should add. I found this chair at Goodwill a thrift shop for 20.00, what a bargain, right! When I got it home I found out the darn thing reclines just by leaning back. Now if you know me...I am not one who like anything to do with pinks, rose colors etc...so asap... I began ripping it apart, of course taking tons of photographs for putting back together. Now, I've never done reupholstered before especially to this extent, but hey, I'm game for trying anything new.

 

 

Of course the cat had to sniff around and make sure it meant her approval, yeah right, actually she's just investigating all the odors! Yuk! I can only imagine what has been on this chair, oh I don't wanna go there....Eeek!

 

 

So the ripping continued all afternoon, for hours, there were so many staples I thought I would never want to look at one again! Pulling and tugging using a screwdriver I kept on going...and I have to tell you it was gross, especially the padding it literally fell apart. I will need to replace it all and thank goodness, when done, it will be like a brand new chair.

 

 

That is... if I can keep my fingers out of the way...yes, I managed to take a chunk out of my index finger during the whole process. Where am I with it..well, it's sitting  in my living room striped naked waiting to be redone. I call it an art piece for now!

 

And that's what I've been doing, no knitting or crocheting, just decorating the inside and out. This winter I plan on redecorating nearly everything, inside of course!

 

 

 

And the Garden Keeps Giving Lately...

 

 

 

 

 

I am a bit confused with the weather again...now we are going back up into the high 80's this coming week. I've been in the #garden nearly everyday checking the newly planted #zucchini and the new batch of #lettuce. Everything seems to be growing just fine this being my fall crop. It seems to me that summer has arrived a bit late. The #sunflowers are now blooming as they should have last month what can I say at least they have arrived. I was hoping because the seeds feed a lot o the birds through the winter. I guess then I better quite picking them adding two more to my fresh flowers. I had to take out the rest of the greenery the cat thought it was play time, which I don't mind just that she kept knocking them over. I think I like this arrangement more don't you agree...oh, the smells of summer and the chill sometimes in the air that says fall is upon us. I was happy this summer by now everything usually looks dried up with colors of yellow. Not this summer it's still a beautiful green. I know the change is coming and I am not sad it's been a nice spring, and summer. The best in awhile despite all the rain. And if you're wondering about the hash tag marks I am trying something new I just hope I'm doing it right!

DIY Bench How Easy....It's Hard to Believe

 

I've been trying to figure out a way to build an easy bench for the garden, one that didn't take a lot of tools and can be taken apart and moved easily. Not that I can't make one myself, I don't have the workshop and tools since my divorce. Heck if I had my way, I'd knock down a few walls in the apartment and make it a workshop. Yes it's true, I have built rooms put up walls and drywall. One day I will have to dig in to my photo collection and give you a peek. It was one of my favorite things to do, from beds, to a desk, to a baby cradle, and table and more...but currently this sneaky little gal is saving the old lumber from the deck the owners are replacing. There is nothing like old aged wood to make a cool coffee table and more...trolling again today on the Internet of course looking at granny square projects, for this gal it's way to hot to go outside until the sunsets. In my trolling I found this bench and was in aw...how much more simpler could it be!!

 

4 - 4" by 4" 8ft. long pieces of wood if you're not going to use treated make sure to seal the wood for rainy days. It looks to be 12 cinder blocks for those who don't know they only come with two square holes per block. This is 4 stand vertical on bottom and 2 horizontal on top. Slide the wood in and your done. Now this is what I call easy peasy!!
