Knitting Continues

I am nothing if not spontaneous, a person who lives in the moment and does what sparks me at the moment. So today I am posting on this my old blog. It seems brighter more colorful and today that's how I feel.

The sun is shining there is snow on the ground although it's bitter cold its a beautiful blue sky, sunny day.

Just the kind of day for sitting by the wood burner catching a glimpse of the flames and knitting socks. I have finished one and now working the other. Most people do socks on circular needles working both at the same time, I prefer the double pointed needles. Sock Syndrome which is what happens to many after completing one sock, the desire to do the other seems to halt. I enjoy making socks so I am fine doing one at a time. I can not tell one the joy I have found in this knitting of socks. Strange as it may seem I find it relaxing and fun at the same time. A new found love of knitting for  me. I am not a winter baby, don't enjoy winter sports other than I do so love football and look forward to the playoffs and the Super Bowl. I am also looking forward to knitting while watching the Alabama College Game. I plan to make knitting and learning new ways and patterns a big part of this year. I also plan on trying to find a place or spot for photographing my work. This winter has been rather kind to us with no snow and warmer temps until this year. I am grateful for the calmer winter opposed to the past two winters which were brutal. With my children all grown and raising their own children the house is quiet with exceptions of Bo Bunny and Bella the cat. Both are pretty quiet pets in fact right now (as I call them my children) they are sleeping. I truly enjoy the quiet, yet, the sounds of all the little things I hear in the house... I never paid much attention to when my children where still living at home. It's rather new found sounds I've never heard before, and it's nice, I enjoy discovering new things everyday. What a blessing it is to be able to have all six senses in tack. I am so very grateful.
Thank you for stopping by...stay warm and as always knit or crochet which ever you prefer <3

Only 53 Days Until SPRING....

So they say only 53 days until spring, although winter is still here, I am so happy we were not hit like last year. The most we've had at one time is 3 maybe 4 inches. Who can complain..I can...every year a man and his truck is suppose to clear my driveway...this year it seems to be little old me. Then again I don't mind it's good for the body...right...as 5 trucks with snow shovels on the front... sat at the light and just watched me...thanks guys..next time I'll wear a sign hey help here. After all they say men are problem solvers and not mind readers.

After I finished the driveway I took a walk around the back by the woods...oh it was so beautiful.

The pine trees all filled with fresh white snow the weather not to cold...it just felt good.

I marveled at whatever this tall weed is...really...I need to find out I should know by now. Smothered in ice and fresh snow it's just seemed in need of attention.

As did this grape vine that appeared to being weeping as if to say where is spring.

And of course my lavender...hold on girls I said out loud, as they are in the direction of the cold wind.

And then it happened as I was walking further back to the woods something just didn't feel right...I took one look down and there is was my leggings inside out...not to mention they were light weight summer jeggings as they call them.

So in my inside out twisted jeggings I plopped down and made my first snow angel of the winter. Needless to say...my jeggings were soaked. And I had a blast! Do you know how hard it is to get up without destroying a work of art in the snow. I managed thinking how on earth did I do this has a child...oh well.

back to the house around the corner a broken tree branch just looked so beautiful as it glittered in the light...I snapped a photo. Isn't it amazing!

Needless to say I had a good time...as the old saying goes "if you can't beat winter join it" and that's what I did...let my child out to play in the snow. Try it sometime it's really refreshing all the way around.

Winter Knitting

Winter, Photographed....

in black....

and white....

my favorite photographs ever Black and White!

Today I decided I've been sitting way too much, bundled up and took a long walk. With all the things going on in my life lately, something hit me the other day and said no more...this is it, it's your time...time to get rid of eating all the junk because a situation has me feeling a bit trapped, get up girl I said, this is another challenge you've been her before, you can do this...I decided no more...it's really time for me personally, my body, health both physical and mental. So with that said, I've been working this week on eating healthier. I've tried this many times in the past with out succeeding but this time feels different...it feels like the day I stood in that storage unit when I as homeless, heard the song by Kenny Loggins,  this is it, song on the radio. The line that says "no one can tell you for you know, you make the choice of how it goes." And with that said, I knew it was my time, time to choose me. My walk which started out with just a bit of snow on the ground an hour later I was walking in a stunning land of white, I felt like I was walking into a photograph. The flakes were medium, falling everywhere making it hard to see, within a second I just stopped, stood there surrounded by snow and woods, tree limbs painted by nature in a brilliant white, ground covered in a bed of white, undisturbed and magical. I looked up and said, " thank you God, for this gorgeous earth, this beautiful winter day filled with snow, thank you, for the experience of the seasons that so many don't get to see, I am grateful. How did you know I needed this today and with that I smiled. Now I'm home writing to you my readers, and when done, my knitting continues as the scarf is half way done.

Many Blessings to everyone, enjoy the day where ever you may be!

Chilly Days....

It's been so cold here, the wind is blowing, the snow is drifting whirling around through the air. The temperature I don't even want to know, it just feels incredibly chilly. Seems mother nature has decided two years of being nice was enough. I can't say I blame nature without the really cold winters, veggie gardening in the spring doesn't produce much, so I have to say we are chilly, but grateful. It will bring a much better spring, oh were are you spring...just around the corner.

On Christmas Eve my oldest grandson, Brennan, received something he's been dreaming of since he was 3. As a young toddler all he ever spoke of was being a guitarist in a rock band. Since guitar hero came out on on Xbox he's been jamming away. I thought it was time for his dreams to come true, from what I hear he's playing away learning more with Rock Smith. This little guy as tons of potential and he's letting everyone know at just 10 years old. However, the little guy below is not appreciating the amp that puts out all the sound.

Owen, is 6, turning 7 tomorrow and a bubble boy all the way....and grammie made sure he got what he wanted. It's the beauty of being a grandmother, spoil them as much as we can and I love it.

But the last few days, of this chilly weather has me thinking blankets and searching for patterns, wrapping myself up in warm handmade deliciously soft one sound so good right now. I found this one Basel Throw free pattern, I feel in love with the design and adding another project to my already long...list!

Then I stumbled across this on  Pinterest which I have been spending a lot of time trolling...isn't it just so cool. The things one finds is amazing there are so many creative people in this world that would have gone unnoticed without the internet.

This one totally had my attention although it didn't lead to any real pattern just a error, but I still love this one the best. The colors, the way the grannie squares mix with the double crocheted rows. This is another one I would love to make, in the meantime I will keep trolling, as I sit on the couch wrapped up in a blanket enjoying the quite days of creating.

An Enchanting Pattern

Dragon Watchers Hood Pattern shortened by me.

Color -Cilantro- Original Dragon Watchers Hood Pattern

A late night pop in to show what I've been up to since my last post. Christmas Eve was spent at my oldest son's home with the grand son's opening gifts from me. (photographs to come in next post with all the details) I've been knitting with Lion Brands Wool Ease Thick and Quick a yarn I usually don't use and thought I'd give it a try. The pattern I used was from Woodland Knits by Stephanie Dosen. The pattern is called  Dragon Watchers Hood, (deep red hood in post link) it's Stephanie's very first knitting book. I am really enchanted with the fantasy patterns that seem to just take you away to another place in time. The entire book is done so beautifully the images alone will captivate. I've done the original Hood in the same yarn, color, Cilantro, but need to purchase more yarn to for the long I-Cord that goes through the front of the hood. I love the way she designed the casing in the front it was simple with The Dragon Watchers Hood done entirely seamless. This is my version of the Hood done shorter with a seam up the back, if you look at the original it has a long tail behind the hood. Although I usually work with worsted weight or dk yarns I really enjoyed the thick and quick. Not to mention this hood is incredibility warm. This would make a wonderful gift or a project to keep for yourself, either way your sure to love it!

Update- How I did the shorter version will be in my Ravelry Sunday evening.

Someone Say Bunnies

Easter is almost here and March is making it's way out like a lion. There is snow, not much, but enough to know spring hasn't really arrived technically speaking. It doesn't bother me, as I tell my son, I am grateful to be living in an area where I get to experience all four seasons. How amazing! To think around the world there are children who have never seen or had the experienced of falling snow.
I love children especially babies up to 5 years old. They have such a pureness that draws one in as they see life in all it's innocence's. It's the beauty of being a grandmother to see once again as they do.
And speaking of grandmother's.....

We also knit and crochet...blankets, hats, mittens and bunnies. Yes, every little one should have a bunny for Easter. These two are crocheted both are going to nice homes for Easter. The little blue bunny is sleeping he was requested by my son for my grandson who is beginning to loose teeth. It has a front pocket for the tooth.

I just finished the little blue one on the left which is for my oldest grandson. Nearly 10 and he's changing everyday. I look at him when he visits and can remember the tiny little toe head blonde just discovering life. He wanted a big boy bunny. If your wondering where the pink and white one is going a neighbor has two grand daughter's. So yes I do need one more.
They are fun to crochet, however, I am not big on stuffing and assembly, until I see the final result and if your wondering they are 14" tall.

I am working on the last one for the neighbor. This one has a bit more detail as this is going to a big girl. Well, let's just say she thinks so and that's all that matters. I've done this one before as it seems to be a favorite when someone sees a photograph or the ones that are made randomly and sit in a basket in my living room.

This is what she will look like when finished. I can just see the little one who received this bunny dragging it across the floor by one arm. Oh, how sweet to imagine. I am happy they make a little one smile, maybe even you!
